Is God Judging America and Prayer Is Worthless?

Is God Judging America and Prayer Is Worthless?

Author - Dave Butts

For months now I have focused almost entirely on mobilizing prayer on behalf of our nation.  I'm absolutely convinced that God has called me to do this, especially as we lead up to our presidential election this fall. For the most part, these efforts have been met by enthusiasm and often, even gratitude. But not always.

There are those who believe that I am wasting my time. I hear from them occasionally, typically online. These Christians believe that the United States is too far gone to be saved. They tell me that God has already passed judgment on our nation and that our prayers are in vain. I want to answer them here.

First, there does come a time when a nation passes the point of no return. Continued sin without repentance eventually brings the judgment of God. But that time is completely in the hands of God and there is no way that we can discern that time with our own knowledge. We must beware of putting our own criteria forward to determine the time of judgement for a nation.

The second and most important point is that when God is ready for judgment, he is through with prayer. When God was ready for judgment to come upon Judah, he said to Jeremiah, "Do not pray for the well being of this people" (Jer.14:11). In the following chapter God said, "even if Moses and Samuel were to stand before me, my heart would not go out to this people" (Jer.15:1). Even world class intercessors like Moses and Samuel would not move the heart of God when it is the divine moment for judgment.

My point? God is not through with America, because God is still calling us to prayer. There is still a powerful call to prayer proceeding from the Throne of Heaven. Prayer leaders from around the world have sensed this summons to prayer for the United States. There is still a window of divine opportunity for our nation. If we will humble ourselves and pray, God is ready to forgive and heal our land. God never calls us to prayer without Him being prepared to answer those prayers.

There may be a time coming soon when it is too late to pray. The truth of God's Word is that you can push back that time through your humble, repentant prayers today. In this open heavens moment, if we will pray, the hand of God in judgment may be stayed, and instead His blessings of revival might be poured out. Your prayers can make the difference!

Imo, America, and the world, will improve when people can get beyond their fixation with imaginary friends and ancient books filled with nonsense. Prayer might make you feel better, but your god/imaginary friend only exists in your mind. One man working accomplishes more than a billion praying.

I find myself discouraged at the lack of response within my own church. Your prophetic call to go back to prayer is e blessed reminder to listen to God's direction and not my own feelings!

God would not have called me to pray fervantly for this nation. I know I am not the only one that is standing in the gap. Thanks for writing this message to people. If I am called to do this there has to be many others called to do the same. I also grow tired of hearing believers tell the terrible things that are about to befall us, I'd rather believe God has called people to pray so that He can change the course of Americas future. Dutch Sheets and Francis Frangipane have two great books out that have helped me to pray and be optimistic.

If Nehemiah had felt the way many Christians feel the wall would not have been rebuilt! Until Jesus comes back there is always time to turn back to God. God Bless America!

I am so grateful to you for coming forward with a call for Christians to repent and to pray for the elections. I have been so saddened because I didn't see that happening. I will definitely support the prayer call and will pass this message to others. God bless AMerica! And God bless you!

I just heard about this today. We are ALL concerned but as one person what can I do? I felt so defeated until I heard about this and HOPE actually sprang to life. God can definitely do and it is all of our responsibilities to notify, involve others! Let hope and faith of God do what no one person can.

The Holy Spirit has touched my heart through your message here. Too often I detect a fleeting whisper ... actually a guttural murmur of "why pray for such a thing, since so many are blind and deaf?". I rebuke these distracting thoughts that set themselves up against the wisdom and knowledge of Our God! He alone in Omnipotent. With Him, ALL things are possible! Thank you for your obedience to His prodding. "5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians

Thank you for sharing this. My bible opened today to some verses I'd underlined previously from Jeremiah 18:7-10 "(Lord speaking) If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it." Yes, we are being called to pray for our country. It's not too late. But, be warned, once God passes judgement, and we (the country) do not repent from our evil, we will suffer the disaster He has planned. A new president is NOT going to solve our problems. Only repentance of our sins, and turning our hearts back to God, will save us.

Dave, after hearing you speak about this so profoundly on Saturday, I'm moved and want to share this message. I started with my Christmas card list and the churches where I know leaders that I can share the word with to encourage them to join in with prayer. JaNell
